Virarajendrapet is now embellished with a clock-tower, ereceted in front of the Post Office. The foundation stone of the building was laid, by Sir Hugh Daly, the Chief Commissioner or Coorg, on the 5th February, 1914, when he visted the town, during his tour in Coorg. It is the gift of Mr. Mukkatira Iyappah, a successful coffee planter.Incommemoration of the Coronation or the King-Emperor, at Delhi. It has already proved a boon to the public. Mr. R H Ellis, I.C.S, the District Magistrate of Coorg performed the opening ceremony, on the 16th January 19US, and handed over the building to the Virarajendrapet Muncipality.
Many Kodavas have valuable collections of paper clippings on varied themes like news items pertaining to Kodagu and Kodavas, achievements of eminent Kodavas/Kodavatis in the fields of education culture, sports etc
Such clippings contain a wealth of information worth preserving for posterity.
Kodava Clan intends to take up this activity. A search index will be created to enable searching and locating of transparencies based on keywords compiled from captured readable text.
